Kepala Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (LAPAN), Thomas Djamaludin, mengatakan saat ini sedang ada gabungan gelombang tinggi di laut dan pasang maksimum saat gerhana bulan total tersebut.
“Waspadai efek gabungan gelombang tinggi di laut dengan pasang maksimum saat purnama dan gerhana bulan,” ujar Thomas saat dihubungi KompasTravel, Jumat (27/7/2018).
Thomas menambahkan angin dari selatan-tenggara masih cukup kencang sekitar 30 km/jam menyebabkan tinggi gelombang laut lebih dari tiga meter di Samudera Hindia.
Gelombang tersebut juga menerpa beberapa pulau Indonesia, yaitu sisi pantai selatan Jawa, Bali, dan Nusa Tenggara Barat, serta pantai barat Sumatera.
“Sementara purnama, khususnya sekitar waktu gerhana bulan, gaya pasang surut bulan diperkuat gaya pasut matahari. Akibatnya pasang air laut menjadi maksimum,” jelas Thomas.
Efek gabungan gelombang tinggi dan pasang maksimum tersebut bisa menyebabkan banjir pasang (rob) terhempas ke daratan yang lebih jauh.
“Pilih lokasi pemantauan yang aman, jangan di pantai-pantai yang berpotensi terkena banjir rob!” tegasnya.
Tempat terbaik melihat gerhana pada dasarnya adalah jauh dari pemukiman, karena menghindari polusi cahaya pada malam hari. Pantai dan gunung kerap dijadikan lokasi pengamatan.
